I am a dreamer. And as a dreamer, I have many goals. I have short term goals, long term goals, realistic goals and unrealistic goals. Some goals are within striking distance, some I have much work to accomplish. Here are a few goals I’ve set for 2015:

  • Run a 30-min 5K
  • Finish a half marathon in 2:30
  • Increase upper body strength
  • Lose 20 lbs of fat
  • Run a marathon

RUN A 30-MIN 5K
Yes, I dream about winning. But to win, you have to be faster than your competitors. The closest I’ve come to the podium is 6th place in age group. So, in order to increase my competitiveness, I’d like to get my 5K to sub-30. For now, I’d be happy to get it to 30-30:59 min. To accomplish this goal, I am incorporating more speedwork into my training plan in the form of fartlek runs and strides. Also, I’ll looking to do some hill work as well because a few of my races are on hilly courses.

FINISH A HALF IN 2:30
This goal I hope to accomplish before I run my marathon. Simply because I’d like to finish a marathon in the allotted time which is usually 6 hours. for this I’m following the Run the Edge marathon training plan with the goal of getting my average half marathon pace to 11:26 min/mile.

INCREASE UPPER BODY STRENGTH
Admittedly, this will be the hardest to accomplish because I don’t like going to the gym. I do go the gym for group X classes or to use the treadmill, but rarely do I use the machines or free weights. Hopefully, going to Camp Gladiator sessions regularly will help me reach this particular goal. I will also be incorporating yoga a few times a week.

LOSE 20 LBS OF FAT
Although it’s not my primary focus, losing the extra weight will get me to my speedy goal. Plus, according to my doctor, I would be able to get off my diabetes medication, which is incentive enough.Tracking my macros with My Fitness Pal has seemed to work in the past, so I’ll try that again. But clean eating, consistent exercise and journaling will be my main tools to accomplish this goal.

RUN A MARATHON
My ultimate goal is to run a marathon in November 2015. All of the above goals will help me accomplish this. Now, it’s just a matter of choosing the right one.
